L’Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture System Review

Loreal-EverPure-Moisture

I’ve always struggled with dryness and heat damage when it comes to my hair. After I hit my awkward preteen years, my hair decided to rebel against the typical super- fine, stick-straight texture of most asian hair, instead turning coarse, frizzy and developing a natural wave. I absolutely hated that I couldn’t keep it under control, and started flat-ironing my hair at the tender age of 13.

Through the years I stayed dedicated to heat styling my hair each and every morning before school, whether I was after a pin-straight look, or perfecting my flat-iron curls. Fast forward to my first year of university, when I jumped on the ombre trend, which lead to even more hair damage.

I’ve still maintained the lighter colour on the ends of my hair to this day, but having since learned more about the different haircare options out there, I’m now always on the search for products that will help me reverse and protect my hair against dryness and damage. In recent years, all of the hairdressers I’ve visited have recommended I search for “sulfate-free” products.

That’s why I was so excited when I had the opportunity to team up with L’Oréal Paris to try out their EverPure Moisture System. The L’Oréal Paris EverPure Moisture line is specially formulated to be gentle on colour-treated hair, with no harsh sulfates, salts or surfactants that can strip, dull and damage hair. These kind of products are a gentler solution that can help with frizzy, coarse, and damaged hair (like my own), and will also help to preserve colour longer, as they don’t strip hair as aggressively as products that do contain sulfates. I’ve incorporated the products into my haircare routine recently and wanted to share my review of the system, as well as my results!

L’Oréal Paris EverPure Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

The EverPure Moisture system features rosemary oil, which has been long regarded as a natural remedy that can provide multiple benefits for your hair, including combatting dryness. I absolutely love the smell of both the shampoo and conditioner, which have more of a fresh, herbal scent than the typical floral/fruity fragrance of other haircare products I’ve tried.

The EverPure Moisture Shampoo gently cleanses dry hair to replenish moisture, adding shine and leaving hair feeling soft. Another role that sulfates play in shampoo is providing that rich, foamy lather that many people love. I’ve never found a sulfate-free shampoo that has properly lathered, until using this product. This made a huge difference in my experience and satisfaction with the shampoo, as it still gave me that super-clean feeling even though it wasn’t stripping my hair.

The conditioner from the EverPure Moisture line has a thick, creamy consistency. I usually only apply conditioner from the middle to the ends of my hair, as this is where I have the most dryness and damage. After leaving the product on for 2-3 minutes after using the shampoo, it left my hair feeling smoother and more manageable. Conditioning is one of my favourite parts of my haircare routine, because I feel like it’s the step that really infuses that soft, touchable feel.

L’Oréal Paris EverPure 10-in-one Elixir

I was extra excited to try out this product as I love to experiment with leave-in treatments – they’re just so easy! The product contains Indian Lilac, which is a great ingredient for hair to combat damage. The ten benefits listed for the elixir are:

  1. Nourish
  2. Hydrate
  3. Sooth
  4. Repair
  5. Density
  6. Smooth
  7. Texture
  8. Strength
  9. Softness
  10. Shine

Following the instructions, I applied the elixir on towel dried hair in sections to ensure it was evenly distributed, and then styled as usual. The product had a herbal scent that complemented the shampoo and conditioner nicely, and I definitely found it soothing! After styling, I noticed improvement in both the texture and appearance of my hair. I liked that the product didn’t leave my strands feeling heavy or sticky like other leave-in treatments I’ve tried.

Overall, I was impressed with the L’Oréal Paris EverPure Moisture System and would recommend these products to anyone suffering from dry, damaged hair like mine. The idea behind the line is “caring for your hair without compromise (with no harsh sulfates, salts or parabens – plus it’s 100% vegan!), which is a concept I can definitely get behind. I’m always on the lookout for products that will help erase the years of heat and colour damage from my hair, and these will definitely play a permanent role in my collection! Rose gold hair with Redken

Rose Gold Hair

I recently had the opportunity to team up with Redken for their Style Transformation campaign, which launched in May. This series is all about expressing yourself by transforming your hair and not conforming to any labels or limits! When I was first approached with the concept, and given the freedom to try something new with my hairstyle, I immediately gravitated towards adding a pop of colour.

I’ve always been pretty guarded when it comes to my hair (it was my safety blanket for many years), and was never comfortable taking risks with it. That is, until the winter of 2016 when I decided to chop 12 inches off! Since then, I’ve definitely been more open to the idea of having fun with my hair and using it to express my personal style.

I was introduced to the lovely Marie-Eve Faucher, a Redken Artist who also works out of Salon Tocci in Liberty Village. I’ve been absolutely lusting after the rose gold hair trend and took this as the perfect opportunity to try it out. After meeting with Marie-Eve and showing her a few inspiration photos, she let me know that a super pastel look I was after would be a bit of a challenge to achieve considering the dryness of my hair. My natural texture is actually quite coarse and wavy (unusual for Asian hair), so I’ve always used hot tools for styling, causing damage over the years. Although a little disappointed, I trusted her advice and settled into my chair for the five hour appointment.

The end result was more vibrant than I imagined, and definitely out of my comfort zone! Marie-Eve used a combination of Redken City Beats (a semi-permanent dye) in Chelsea Coral and City Ballet Pink to achieve the striking colour. What I love about this style is that it starts out bold, but will fade with washing and time, making it the perfect solution for someone like me who’s just starting to experiment with colour and isn’t super committed.

Before After

I also picked up a few tips about protecting and caring for my hair, especially since I’m hoping to grow it long again. Marie-Eve used some awesome Redken products to tame frizz and protect my hair from heat while styling, including the Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer Spray, which I loved and smelled amazing!

This was a super exciting experience for me, and I love how it turned out. It was refreshing to take a risk and I’m actually proud of myself for doing it! I can’t wait to see how the colour fades over the next few weeks, and who knows – I may try another fun colour this summer. Have you ever taken a risk with your hair? Let me know about your experience in the comments below!

Sephora VIB Sale Haul!

header

Sephora is currently hosting its VIB Holiday Shopping Event, offering VIB members 20% off the entire store, in store and online. High end beauty products rarely go on sale, so I had to take advantage of this amazing deal!

I try not to splurge too often on makeup, but definitely like to invest in some staple products that are essential to my beauty routine. I took this sale as an opportunity to stock up on some of my favourite products, and to indulge in some new ones.

Check out what I purchased from the sale below:

Eyes & Brows

eyes

  1. Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara: As a girl with very straight, very short lashes, anything that promises “curl” will catch my attention. While the results of this mascara aren’t super dramatic, I do get a lot more lift and curl out of it than other formulas. This has quickly become one of my favourite mascaras!
  2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Medium Brown: This is my holy grail of holy grail products. I’ve been using the same jar of Dipbrow for the past three years (gross, I know) and it’s still no where near done. I thought it would be a good idea to pick up another one of these as I know it will always be my number one brow product – trust me when I say a little goes a long way with this stuff.
  3. Velour Silk Lashes Fluff’n Thick Lashes in Fluff’n EdgyAfter having previously purchased a pair of Velour lashes, I decided to invest in a second pair. The style I selected this time was Fluff’n Edgy, a full (and fluffy), dramatic set that’s versatile enough for multiple occasions. I will say that the band on Velour lashes can be a bit thick – which is nice for allowing more surface area for the glue to adhere to, but can be a bit uncomfortable on the lids at times.

Face

These were my two “set” purchases from the sale. I usually gravitate towards the holiday sets (with such adorable packaging, who could resist?), but stayed quite practical this time around. Unfortunately, the Smashbox set no longer seems to be available from the Sephora website, but I did find a link to it on the Smashbox site.

Smashbox Light It Up Primer Set:

  1. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer: This primer has proven to be a tried and true product with me. I know some are opposed to silicone based primers, but I personally love the silky feeling and really do feel like it helps my makeup last throughout the day!
  2. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water: This is a new product that I’m excited to try. I plan to use it as a setting spray – I’ve tried a few sprays from a few different brands but have never found one that truly wowed me.

Beautyblender + Too Faced Holiday Kit:

  1. Too Faced Candlelight Glow in Rosy Glow: Another new product for me, this highlighter duo caught my eye and I can’t wait to use it to add some glam to holiday looks. Since the product comes in a set, it’s not full sized. However, I think this will be great for travelling, and is also useful as a trial run.
  2. Beautyblender in Petal Pink: I’ve been wanting to splurge and purchase a Beautyblender, but until now have settled for the dupe from Real Techniques. I’m excited to see if there will be a noticeable difference between the two – I also love this baby pink colour!
  3. Bloterazzi Blotting Cushion: This seems like a great product to keep in my purse – it promises to remove excess oil without disturbing makeup. Hopefully this will be a great go-to during the long work day when I just need a quick touch up.

Lips

  1. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso: I first tried this product when it was given as one of Sephora’s Beauty Insider birthday gifts a few years back. I fell in love with the colour immediately – the blue undertones in this gorgeous red really make your teeth look white! I think it’s such a pretty colour for the holidays, date night, or if you just feel like rocking a bold lip. The formula is beautifully matte and long lasting, however I do find the applicator a bit tricky to control.
  2. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare: I purchased this colour because I love my Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Lolita (a cult fave), but wanted something a bit more pink for every day wear. This is the perfect shade to match with anything and you can’t beat the formula of these lipsticks – super matte, but not super drying.

Fragrance

frangrance-3

Chloé Love Story Eau De Toilette: My pricier purchase at this year’s sale was a new fragrance. Since perfumes can be expensive and hardly ever go on sale, I thought it was the right time to bite the bullet. I’ve been using the original Chloé perfume (simply called “Chloé”) for years, but wanted to switch it up. Love Story falls within the same floral family as Chloé, but smells a bit more fresh than the original. So far, I’m loving it!

There’s still some time to take advantage of this sale, which ends tomorrow at midnight PDT. If you’re a VIB member, you can use the code “20VIB” to receive the discount online, or simply use your card at check out when in store. Happy shopping!
